Eden Geothermal Community Fund update – Trethurgy village playing field

Last year we supported nine community groups from Treverbyn, St Blaise, Carlyon and Luxulyan parishes with Eden Geothermal Community Fund grants to benefit projects in the local area.

One of these groups was the Village Hall Committee from Trethurgy, a village right on our doorstep. They applied for just over £3,700 to provide new facilities for all ages in the village playing field: goalposts, an outdoor table tennis table and benches. We’re delighted not just to hear that these are now in place and being used daily by local families, but also to learn that the funding seems to have kick-started a process of wider improvements. A new group came together to manage the refurbishments paid for by the Community Fund, and this group went on to successfully bid for additional funding from a range of sources to install a pump track, a perimeter walking track for older people, adventure play equipment and fencing, as well as to landscape the field.

A spokesperson for the group said: “The successful bid to Eden Geothermal kick started some enthusiastic work and we are thrilled with the results. The field is now a real asset to the village and other villages have been looking at ideas to now upgrade their play areas in a similar way.”

Congratulations to the volunteer team that has worked so hard to transform this community space.
